Changing foliage and cooler evenings means fall is here and with that comes Halloween Austin festivities. If you are visiting Austin during the month of October, you may want to check out some of these activities for a spooktacular vacation.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch

There are many pumpkin patches around Austin. For more than 30 years the pumpkin patch at Tarrytown United Methodist Church has been celebrating fall with family and friends. The pumpkin patch is open the month of October Monday – Friday from 2 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., and Sunday from 12:15 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Halloween Austin on 6th Street

On Halloween night, Austin’s 6th Street entertainment district turns into a giant adult party. Many of the bars and clubs along the street host costume parties, contests, and DJs, and the streets are packed full of Wonder Woman costumes, pirates, and mermaids.

Austin Zoo Boo at the Zoo

If you are looking for a family-friendly Halloween Austin, Boo at the Zoo is held at the Austin Zoo every Friday and Saturday in October from 6:30 – 9 p.m. Costumes are encouraged; however, adult masks are not allowed. The zoo will be lit up and decorated for the night and rides include a haunted train and a haunted house. Tickets cost $17.50 per person.

House of Torment

The House of Torment is Austin’s scariest haunted house. Guests are walked through long, skinny hallways into rooms full of props, lighting, and actors in costumes walking around scaring people. The lines to get in can be long around Halloween, and the haunted house is not advised for children under 12.

Viva la Vida Festival

Viva la Vida is Austin’s largest and longest-running Día de Los Muertos festival. The festival is put on by the Mexic-Arte Museum and is free to the public. Viva la Vida will include a parade, a pavilion with arts & crafts, a low-rider exhibition, booths selling artwork and traditional food, live music, and entertainment. This years’ festival will be held on Saturday, October 27 from noon to 6 p.m. on the 100-200 block of E. 4th Street in downtown.
