If you’re looking to hit up Austin when the tourists are few and the weather is nice, winter is the perfect time to do it. It rarely snows and the weather usually hangs around the 60s, making it a comfortable kind of winter where you’re free to enjoy all the magic of the winter season without having to bundle up too much. And we certainly have a lot of Austin winter magic to enjoy!

So Much to Do in Town

There are endless opportunities for fun in the city. Hit up one of the weekly dance parties at Highball Karaoke. Check out the comedy and improv side of the stage here in Austin at Cap City Comedy Club and Coldtown Theatre. There’s always someone hilarious in town, and you won’t want to miss it. If you’re itching for a little exercise and adrenaline rush, take a spot in the Austin Marathon. Or, if you want to enjoy one of the most cherished winter sports, head to the Ice Rink at Whole Foods (open from the end of November through January) for some wholesome and magical Ice Skating on the Plaza.

Enjoy the Great Outdoors

When the weather is this nice, you’ll want to enjoy it to the fullest by exploring the natural side of Austin. One of our favorite things to do here in the city is bike along the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail, which can be found at the lovely Lady Bird Lake. Another local treasure is the Barton Creek Greenbelt. Take a day to explore the 13 miles of trails on the greenbelt; soak in the lush forest, the softly rushing waters, and the views of the sparkling city skyline peeking through the trees.

‘Tis the Season

There are some Austin treasures that you can simply only enjoy in the wintertime. For instance, the winter tent at Justine’s, a hip and chic French dining establishment. Enter and find yourself in a designer ‘old Hollywood’ wining and dining experience unlike any other. Enjoy an Austin winter with the Winter Wonderland Christmas Gala on December 13th and stay for the Winter Tree Fest at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center on January 25th. There’s a fun-filled winter event happening somewhere practically every day here in Austin!
