The world changed overnight with the arrival of COVID-19, but even though we never know from minute to minute what’s going to happen next, there are some good things that have happened, even though we may not have realized it at the time! We have been able to spend more time with our families, learned some new recipes and practiced our organizational skills at home, and discovered that the commute from the bedroom to the kitchen table is not taxing at all! And just because you’re working from home, it doesn’t mean you have to work from YOUR home! Working remotely won’t seem like working at all when you’re ensconced in the luxury of one of our happy hideaways. Does Austin work from home idea sound tempting to you? Read more below!
Designed to Spoil
Your family may be exploring our town that’s proud of its weirdness as you take virtual meetings in between doing paperwork and phone calls, but you can still enjoy the working hours! Do your monthly reports by the pool, spending your “breaks” in the crystal-clear waters and working on your tan. Order lunch from one of the many restaurants that deliver to the area; Cypress Grill is one of our favorites, offering Cajun classics that will dance on your taste buds beautifully. They deliver, but if you’re out of delivery range, it would be worth the drive to 4404 W. William Cannon Drive for curbside pickup! Once you’re back from lunch, turn up the sound system and rock the rest of the day away as you deal with emails and reports and all the paperwork that comes with a workday.
Weekends and Evenings
Punching out at the end of a day is a joy appreciated even more during your Austin adventures, allowing you to get in the car and drive to Lady Bird Lake for some watery recreation! Swimming, boating, and fishing are popular activities at this body of water named after our former first lady, Lady Bird Johnson. If you’re visiting in the evening, a walk along the concrete paths that surround the lake will give you a view of the city and the sunsets that are our pride and joy!

If you’re looking to hit up Austin when the tourists are few and the weather is nice, winter is the perfect time to do it. It rarely snows and the weather usually hangs around the 60s, making it a comfortable kind of winter where you’re free to enjoy all the magic of the winter season without having to bundle up too much. And we certainly have a lot of Austin winter magic to enjoy!
So Much to Do in Town
There are endless opportunities for fun in the city. Hit up one of the weekly dance parties at Highball Karaoke. Check out the comedy and improv side of the stage here in Austin at Cap City Comedy Club and Coldtown Theatre. There’s always someone hilarious in town, and you won’t want to miss it. If you’re itching for a little exercise and adrenaline rush, take a spot in the Austin Marathon. Or, if you want to enjoy one of the most cherished winter sports, head to the Ice Rink at Whole Foods (open from the end of November through January) for some wholesome and magical Ice Skating on the Plaza.
Enjoy the Great Outdoors
When the weather is this nice, you’ll want to enjoy it to the fullest by exploring the natural side of Austin. One of our favorite things to do here in the city is bike along the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail, which can be found at the lovely Lady Bird Lake. Another local treasure is the Barton Creek Greenbelt. Take a day to explore the 13 miles of trails on the greenbelt; soak in the lush forest, the softly rushing waters, and the views of the sparkling city skyline peeking through the trees.
‘Tis the Season
There are some Austin treasures that you can simply only enjoy in the wintertime. For instance, the winter tent at Justine’s, a hip and chic French dining establishment. Enter and find yourself in a designer ‘old Hollywood’ wining and dining experience unlike any other. Enjoy an Austin winter with the Winter Wonderland Christmas Gala on December 13th and stay for the Winter Tree Fest at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center on January 25th. There’s a fun-filled winter event happening somewhere practically every day here in Austin!

Austin, Texas is a lively center of culture and activity, overflowing with so much art, music, and adventure (both indoor and outdoor) to choose from that even the locals don’t have time to see it all. You’ll have the world at your feet when you come to Austin, and when you come here with someone you love, it’s going to feel like the world’s best date. Here are a few places to take your significant other to make the most of your Austin getaway:
Take a Stroll Through the Zilker Botanical Gardens
Colloquially known as the “jewel in the heart of Austin,” this botanical garden lives up to its name. Taking a romantic stroll through the rich foliage and crafted natural landscapes is a wonderful way to spend an entire day in Austin; you’ll want to see it all, and afterward, you’ll want to simply take a seat by the water together just to breathe in the atmosphere for a while because you won’t want to leave. Open to the public most days of the year, Zilker Botanical Gardens is one of the prettiest places to see in all of Austin.
Swimming and Beer –An All in One Date
Take a fun and relaxing swim at the spring-fed Deep Eddy Pool, a crystal clear and refreshing Regional Aquatic Center. When you’ve had your fill of swimming, towel-off and take a short walk uphill together to the Deep Eddy Cabaret, a charming neighborhood bar that’s been around entertaining both locals and tourists alike since 1951. (Make sure to check the Deep Eddy Pool calendar before stopping by!)
Go Out Dancing Together
Austin is famous for its music scene, so you absolutely must take a dive into the music of Austin while you’re in town. What better way to do that than by making a date of an evening to visit The Continental Club? Open since the 50s, this glitzy venue has become world famous both for the atmosphere and for the artists that perform there. Check out their show calendar when planning your vacation, because hitting the dancefloor is a vital part of the Austin experience. It’s also a great excuse to break out your dance moves and impress your date! This is definitely the most romantic Austin getaway you can plan!
