Thanksgiving Feast

When it comes to traveling on the Thanksgiving holiday you may find yourself not wanting to prepare a feast for everyone. Instead, treat you and the family to a wonderful meal at one of the many restaurants in town that will be open on Thanksgiving. This lets you enjoy the day without having to work away in the kitchen. A variety of steak houses in Austin will be open on Thanksgiving with a special menu. These restaurants include Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, Fleming’s, and Truluck’s Seafood, Steak, and Crab House. For more contemporary cuisine with locally sourced ingredients head over to Trace for a tapas style meal. Reservations are highly encouraged for dining out on Thanksgiving Day when the options are limited to choose from.

Thundercloud Subs Turkey Trot

One of the timeless traditions for most cities across the country is having a “Turkey Trot” where you can spend your Thanksgiving morning participating in a race to benefit a local organization. Austin features the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot that benefits Caritas of Austin, a local non-profit that aims to end homelessness in Austin each year. It started back in 1991 with a handful of volunteers and has evolved into the state’s largest 5-mile run with over 20,000 participants each year. This year’s event will have a variety of races including the time 5-mile run, untimed 5-mile run or walk, 1-mile run or walk, Stepping Stone School Kids K, and also virtual options too. Registration is required before you attend the event and can be completed online. Start your Thanksgiving off with a quick race to build your appetite for the big meal later in the day.
