The fall season is one of the best times of the year for Austin Getaways. The temperatures are starting to fall, allowing you to enjoy all the outdoor activities in town. There are exciting activities for all ages to enjoy during this perfect season. Here is how you can make the most of your fall journey to Austin:

Day 1: Fall Concert in the Park

Austin is known for the incredible live music featured in the city. Each fall, the Austin Symphonic Band presents their fall concert in Zilker Park. You and your family can lay out the picnic blanket and enjoy a relaxing afternoon under the pecan trees. The theatre is large, allowing thousands of attendees to enjoy this annual event. The Fall Concert in the Park takes place each September and is free to all attendees.

Day 2: Enjoy the Hiking Trails

There are more than enough hiking trails found around Austin that you and your family can enjoy. From Zilker Park to Lady Bird Park, the trails are nearly endless and provide a variety of difficulty levels. The Barton Creek Greenbelt provides miles of trails through trees and along the scenic creek with plenty of opportunities to go off trail for bouldering and wading. When temperatures are still warm enough, this is a great spot to find a hidden swimming hole for a dip! Nine miles of trails at McKinney State Park are among other fall favorites for a day of hitting the trails. Located just south of downtown, this state park provides a true wilderness experience in the city. Hiking, biking, bouldering, and picnicking are all popular activities within the park’s bounds. Along the creek is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon, with water flowing over limestone rocks creating swimming holes and small waterfalls. And if you plan your Austin trip in the end of October to beginning of November, you just may catch the changing fall leaves within McKinney State Park at their peak!

Day 3: Sweet Berry Farm – Austin Getaways

While the berries are in season to be picked in the spring, you can enjoy an assortment of fall activities at Sweet Berry Farm. Bring the kids to check out exciting activities such as scarecrow stuffing, mazes, hayrides, homemade ice cream, and so much more. The Sweet Berry Farm is open all fall season for your enjoyment. This family-friendly event invites you to partake in a simpler time in life, enjoying pleasantries such as picking wildflowers, feeding the resident goats, and of course, picking out the perfect pumpkin! Events occur throughout September and October, making Sweet Berry Farm a great option for a stop on your Austin fall getaway.

Day 4: Colorado Bend State Park

The temperatures are perfect during the fall season, so make the trip to Colorado Bend State Park. You can find over 30 miles of hiking trails and 70-foot-tall waterfalls. The cave systems can even be explored with a little spelunking adventure. The ride to Colorado Bend State Park is worth the exciting fall day you will have, at just under a 2-hour road trip from Austin. Exploring the 70-foot Gorman Falls takes just a 3-mile round trip hike, doable for most hikers with some experience. This spring-fed waterfall is a hidden gem just outside Austin’s bounds!

Day 5: Catch a UT Football Game

Come catch a game at the University of Texas and see how football is revered in the state. You do not have to be a student to enjoy one of these raucous games. Catch the game, celebrate early by tailgating, or do both! If you aren’t able to snag game day tickets, head to one of the best places in Austin to watch a UT game on gameday. Austin has its fair share of sports bars that will be sure to have a big screen TV and all the best game day food and drinks. Scholtz Garden is the oldest bar in Austin, dating back to the 1800s. This popular tailgating destination near UT has a wide assortment of German beer on draft and a large brick courtyard perfect for catching the big game. Bouldin Acres is another top spot for gameday, with an enormous outdoor beer garden, along with lawn games such as corn hole and even pickle ball courts to keep entertained when there’s a lull in the game. Big screen TVs are located both inside and out, and the menu offers plenty of wings to go around.
