When you think of Texas, you can’t help but think of cold beer, fried food, and leather-clad bikers. Each year, Austin celebrates the biker culture with The Republic of Texas Biker Rally. It is the largest ticketed bike rally in the United States. The rally takes place in June and features music food and contests. Although all bikes are welcome, most of the Austin bike rally attendees ride Harley Davidsons.
The Republic of Texas Biker Rally
The streets of the town are lined with bikes during the event. And you are sure to see some innovative details on bikes during the rally. What you won’t see a lot of are helmets, as many of the bikers are morally opposed to the recommended safety apparatus.
The Grounds
The event has been held at the Travis County Exposition Center every year since its inception in 1995. It takes place the weekend after Memorial Day. Many people bring campers and trailers and stay on the festival grounds during the rally. If you decide to join them, you may want to note that you will not get much sleep. The party goes on all night and there will be plenty of music, revving engines and hooting and hollering at this Austin bike rally.
Music
There is an emphasis on country music at the rally and music legends such as Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels, and Hank Williams Jr. have performed there. Pete’s Dueling Piano bar gets taken over by bikers during the rally, and they play some tunes that are a bit different than their normal genre of music. You may see a hundred or so tattooed folks in muscle shirts singing along to, “I Love Rock and Roll” or a heavy metal tune as the harried pianist tries to keep up.
