Where to See Christmas Lights in Austin

Like other big cities Austin has its own Christmas tree that stands tall and bright in the Downtown neighborhood. Our tree specifically can be found over at Zilker Park and will be open soon for the holiday season. This is one of the largest holiday trees you have ever seen standing over 155 feet and with over 3,000 colorful Christmas lights wrapped around it. The top of the tree is completed with a 10-foot-wide holiday star to bring it all together. Zilker Park features quite a few different lit up areas for the holiday season and the Holiday Tree can be found near the Moonlight Towers. The Zilker Holiday Tree will be lit up for the first time following thanksgiving with it turning on every evening after that at 6:00 PM for everyone to enjoy.
Austin Trail of Lights
In addition to hosting the Zilker Holiday Tree, you will also find another exciting event taking place at Zilker Park: the Austin Trail of Lights. This annual event returns once again in 2024 for an incredible experience that your whole family will want to take part in. This event is sponsored by the Austin Parks and Recreation Department that strings up over two million Christmas lights over Zilker Park. You will get to explore Austin’s biggest holiday event as you walk under light tunnels and past 90 holiday trees and 70 lit up Christmas displays. The Austin Trail of Lights has come a long way from its initial stage at the Yule Fest many years ago. The event brings in events year after year and continues to be a local favorite that is much anticipated. You will be able to experience the 2024 Austin Trail of Lights soon from December 10th through December 23rd right here in Zilker Park.
Peppermint Parkway
Austin is home to the Circuit of the Americas, one of the biggest event venues in the city that just so happens to host some of the biggest racing events in the industry. The racetrack also hosts the annual Peppermint Parkway just in time for the holidays. This is a massive holiday event that features a drive-thru pop-up event that features over six million Christmas lights. The drive-thru experience is one mile in length so you can remain in the comfort of your vehicle. This event also features additional activities including local food trucks, hot cocoa, a meet and greet with Santa, and plenty more. You will have not seen a bigger Christmas light experience than this! Reservations are needed in advance to enjoy the Peppermint Parkway that will open just around Thanksgiving. This holiday show features an immersive experience of colorful lights and stunning visuals. The lightshow takes place in the courtyard just outside of Mozart’s, where you can reserve a table to enjoy the show from.
