If you are familiar with local 5Ks in your city, you probably know these events are a great way to feel as part of the community, while supporting a good cause. Labor Day Run will take place in Cedar Park where you can choose from a 5K, 10K, or 13.1-mile race. All ages are welcome to register and join in on the fun. This is a great way to enjoy the cooler summer weather and see some local sights here in Austin.

Watch the Congress Avenue Bridge Bats

There are few attractions in Austin that are more popular than the Congress Avenue Bridge bats. If you have looked up any fun activities to do in Austin, seeing these bats take flights is frequently rated near the top. Congress Avenue Bridge is home to Mexican free-tailed bats that form the largest bat colony in North America. This colony is estimated to be 1.5 million bats in size and take flight during the summer, each evening to feed on local insects. Seeing the bats emerge from their daily slumber is a top summer activity and perfect to see one last time over Labor Day Weekend. This is a free activity, as you find the best viewing area you can, close to the bridge. Labor Day Weekend is at the end of peak viewing season for the bats, but they will continue to stick around Austin, but in smaller numbers. With this activity being so popular, we recommend getting to your viewing area of choice as early as possible in the afternoon. One great way to see the bats from a new angle is by renting a kayak down on Lady Bird Lake. You can paddle around and enjoy the lakefront while watching the bats take flight above you. Just one of the many reasons why Austin is such a cool place to visit!
