With 100,119 seats, the Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin is the seventh-largest collegiate stadium in the country and the largest in the Southwest. Watch a game here or tour the facilities and you’ll see why Austinites are so proud of their team.
State-of-the-Art Renovations
The Darrell K. Royal Stadium’s newest addition is the two-floor, 32,448-square-foot Red McCombs Red Zone Sports Medicine & Strength Training Project. Completed in 2013, it has a state-of-the-art sports medicine facility, hydrotherapy pool, plunge pools, golf putting simulator area, acceleration track and nutrition area.
The locker rooms are equally impressive. A 2011 renovation brought 135 new wide-space lockers with an exhaust system, nutrition bar, lounge area with gaming stations, and six LED screens with a state-of-the-art sound system throughout. Along with them, the stands were remodeled, and a new concession plaza and a visitors’ locker room were added in the northwest corner of the DKR stadium.
Another $175 million renovations is expected soon. University officials say suites, clubs, lounge boxes, sponsor amenities, modified fan seating, and new coaches’ offices are expected.
