Austin City Limits TV Show
All the way back in 1974, there was an idea to record local live musical acts in Austin and broadcast it on television. Thus began the Austin City Limits television program. This program has been running for over 40 years, making it the longest-running music series in American television history, and it is an Austin classic. Initially created to showcase the country-western music of Austin, it has expanded its musical scope over the years to include jazz, rock, and folk music.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
In a testament to the importance of Austin City Limits to the music industry, it was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has also digitally archived all of the over 800 performances over the 40 years so that future generations can appreciate and enjoy them.
Music Festival
Inspired by the iconic Austin City Limits television show, the Austin City Limits Music Festival was born. Taking place each fall over the course of two weekends, the Austin City Limits Music Festival features a diverse lineup of over 140 bands that perform on eight stages around the venue. From 11am to 10pm each day of the festival, enjoy nonstop live music!
